The Foundation
Born of Reconstruction
Founded in London in 1919, the Institute of Patentees & Inventors emerged in response to the devastation of the Great War, aiming to foster innovation and creativity during the critical period of reconstruction.
Throughout the inter-war years, the Institute thrived, attracting many illustrious and renowned members who contributed significantly to technological advancements and intellectual growth.
1940
Resilience
Steadfast Through the Blitz
The outbreak of World War II brought new challenges, and on Friday, 13 September 1940, the Institute’s Headquarters fell victim to the London Blitz.
Despite this setback, the Institute remained undaunted, continuing its mission to support inventors and promote innovation throughout the 20th century. IPI’s dedication to its cause led to its role as a founding member of the International Federation of Inventor Associations, based in Geneva.
